In System Preferences > Language & Text > Input Sources:
A datum identification symbol cannot be simply attached to a center line without reference to any measurements or surfaces. An external thread is on the outside surface of a cylinder, while an internal thread is on the inside surface of a hole. The broken-out section requires another type of line from the alphabet of lines to help show. External UN threads are defined by a capital “A” (i.e.: 1A, 2A or 3A). External UN threads are where the allowances are applied. The external class 1A and 2A thread classes have an allowance applied that makes the pitch diameter smaller than the basic pitch diameter. The result is a thread that does not have an interference or line fit. In word enter 21A7, highlight it, hold down the alt key and press the x key, you get this symbol ↧ i can copy and paste the symbol to other programs but can’t always get them to work outside of ms word. Same with 08615 mentioned below except you hold down the alt key while you type 08615, copy and paste works to other softwares.
Check Keyboard & Character ViewerThread Type Symbol Copy
Check Show Input menu in menu bar
Exit System Preferences.
Internal Thread Symbol
On Finder menu bar next to date, select Show Character Viewer. In the window that pops up, you will see a default list of character collections on the left panel -- but no Greek Symbols. Select the small gear icon and Customize List... Scroll down until you see European Alphabetic Scripts section. If it is not already expanded, click to do so. Select Greek. It will now appear at the bottom of the character panel. Select this Greek symbol category.
Launch Pages and the document where you want to include Greek symbols. Place the cursor where you want specific symbols located. Now, in the Character viewer, double-click the Greek symbol to place it in your Pages document ... like this: ΘΞΔ.
I should mention that you can launch the Character viewer from within Pages > Edit > Special Characters...Thread Type Symbol Chart
